The House of Marley Story

From homeless to business owner and supermodel

Marley, a black pug, was picked up as a stray in February 2001. She was bailed out of the animal shelter by Pug Rescue of Sacramento, named Marley (after Bob Marley, of reggae fame) and was placed in a loving foster home for two months recovering from illness and injury induced by her harrowing ordeal. After that she was adopted to her loving permanent home. Marley soon noticed that dog clothes simply did not fit the pug physique. She quickly tired of friends, family and even complete strangers trying to buy the clothes right off her back when she was out and about.

Thus, the House of Marley Canine Couture line of Extraordinary Apparel for the Fashionable Pug™ was born! A savvy businesswoman, Marley opted at first to use eBay exclusively to sell her pug clothes, and she still makes items available on eBay from time to time. Soon she started her own online boutique called House of Marley, and now you can purchase pug dresses, pug sweaters, pug coats and even pug gowns right now from Marley's exclusive Couture Salon!

In January 2002, following her ordeal as a rescue pug, Marley and her boon companion, Boomer, a fawn pug boy, were at a charity benefit for the Spokane Humane Society. Marley was wearing her own pug dress and hat design, a Carmen Miranda Mexican-style dress, with a fruit filled hat. Her stunning good looks got her noticed by a cameraman. She was asked to appear on the local news that very evening and of course she graciously complied! Marley as Carmen Miranda

The following month, Marley and Boomer were out and about the town and were spotted by a photographer for the Press.

The very next day, Marley graced the front page of the newspaper in full color, wearing her House of Marley fleece pug hoodie!

A supermodel was born.

Since that time, Marley and Boomer have also appeared on television as Wonder Wom-pug and Spider-pug, as part of a benefit for the Portland, Oregon Humane Society. In 2003, Marley flew to California to model in the inaugural pug Fashion Show Elegante put on by the Northern California Pug Dog Club, and she regularly donates fashions to support their efforts in funding PDE research and rescue. Marley also modeled her own hand knit pug sweaters in the first fashion show put on by Holy Threads, a Spokane, Washington fiber retailer. In 2006, Marley, Boomer and their friend Chester marched in the Spokane, Washington St. Patrick's Day Parade put on by Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

Marley and her custom quilt The House of Marley today

Today, House of Marley is a family affair—Marley employs her mother as seamstress, chauffeur, cook, eBayer, Webmistress and poop scooper while she supervises all the work from beneath the east window in her dog bed topped with her custom-made quilt. Boomer participates by modeling the Marley for Men line of clothing for pug gentlemen.

Marley remembers her roots

As a rescued pug herself, Marley believes that pug rescue is very important. She contributes a portion of her profits every year to various pug rescues around the country.
